![]() ![]() Here they were, driven from their homes, sick, sleeping on the ground with three inches of snow, with "no provisions to care for their sick". I read the part where Mother Smith is describing the persecution of the saints leaving Far West. I cried and thought, "I can not do any more I just can't." Then I went upstairs, to read. I was cleaning up a spill, I made, and was brought to tears. I never tire of hearing stories about the History of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.Ī Personal Story: I have been sick for the last few days, really sick. I love these stories she writes, you do not hear these in your Gospel Doctrine class. ![]() Mother Smith was an amazing woman, with faith and courage to face all the trials she had. I am so amazed and the detail of every story in this book. This was the second time I have read this book, and I loved it even more. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() I’d actually written book reviews and poetry reviews before, and felt somewhat ambivalent and alienated from that task, but with this show, I felt like I was comfortable with writing about TV specifically. A lot of people who write about TV have a particular show that sparked them, and this was the one for me. I had a conversion moment, specifically having to do with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This, in complete contrast to my actual personality, which is very argumentative, made this a good profession for me. When I was younger, and especially before I got into journalism, I think I had an allergy to the idea of myself as a critic. It wasn’t so much writing about television as it was writing critical stuff, including pans and praise and formal analysis. I was deeply ambivalent about writing arts criticism generally. ![]() 6/9/2023 0 Comments Courtney summers books![]() There are two main POV characters in The Project – Lo and Bea. When Lev, the charismatic leader of the group offers her exclusive offer to the group in return for a profile, Lo jumps at the chance to get the scoop and find her sister. ![]() But aspiring reporter Lo is suspicious – the Unity Project is also the group that took her sister, Bea, away from her. On the surface, they seem to be a pretty decent bunch of people, operating food shelters and generally just doing nice things for the community they live in. It sets up the scene and introduces us to all the key players, but in lightning fast succession. The opening arc – Preludes and Nocturnes– is probably one of the less interesting arcs of Gaiman’s magnum opus. Still, Gaiman is crafting a sort of modern fable and fairytale, and – as one of his characters reminds us – the fairy tales we tell our children today are heavily sanitized. ![]() There’s quite a lot of disturbing images and ideas thrown into the mix here – perhaps more than later on. There’s very little light or reassuring in the volume, but the lightest element Gaiman uses is quite surprising – his personification of Death as… well, a nice person. Nightmares and demons are frequent guests, but few are as evil as some of the humans we encounter. The tales call to mind some weird hybrid of Tim Burton and the Twilight Zone. ![]() ![]() New school! New friends! New adventures! Wow! He could hardly wait to start! The publisher (or author) gave us the instruction to take down this book from our catalog. ![]() ![]() ![]() I still see us as being in a moment of incredibly powerful political change, precipitated by women who are willing to be angry right now and women who have been angry throughout our history. Political progress is being made all around, even if part of this story is going to be a long-term serious loss in the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh, we don’t know what the end of that story’s going to be. We’re getting a view of the Republican party’s willingness to defend and overlook the stories of assault of women. That delay, whether or not it results in his withdrawal or loss of the confirmation, is creating its own political result. There are so many foregrounding steps that get us to the fact that allegations of sexual assault brought by women are both working to delay and complicate the confirmation of a man to the Supreme Court who would create long-lasting legal impediments to all kinds of gendered, racial, and economic equality. RT: Well it depends on what you count as ‘working.’ This story goes back so far. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() the Enola Holmes book series conveys an impactful message to kids and teenagers all over the world that you can do anything if you set your mind to it, and it does so in an exciting and adventurous way.
